Bayside Middle School

Bayside Middle School

Home of the Raiders! Bayside first opened its doors in 1970. The school is located in the Bayside sector of Virginia beach and is bounded on the north by the Chesapeake Bay, on the east by the western branch of the Lynhhaven Inlet and on the south by Virginia Beach Boulevard. Bayside Middle has a unique layout consisting of separate units connected by outdoor breezeways. Bayside middle is a large school that serves a little over1000 students and houses 75 teachers. Baysides mission "is to provide equal opportunities to all students to reach their full potential, giving each student the knowledge and skills necessary to met the challenge of the future."

Brandon Middle School first opened its doors in 1978 with Charles A. Atkinson as the first principal. It is one of the larger middle schools in the city serving just under 1200 students. Brandon Middle has a variety of extracurricular programs with over 70% of the student body involved in one or more activities. Brandon Middle School is located close to Chesapeake near the Centerville Turnpike.

Corporate Landing Middle School is located off Dam Neck Rd near the Oceana Naval Air Station. Home of the Jets! Corporate Landing serves many military families that live around Oceana. One of the larger middle schools in Virginia Beach, Corporate landing serves approximately 1347 students and over 100 teachers! "The mission of Corporate Landing Middle School is to create a safe and welcoming environment where students are actively engaged in the learning process and empowered to reach their maximum potential."
Great Neck Middle School

Great Neck Middle School

Home of the Stingrays! Great Neck middle is housed in the former Cox High school as a junior high. In 1993 Great Neck opened for grades 6 though 8. Today Great Neck serves 1100 students and almost 80 teachers. Great Neck Middle is one of the most modern schools within the area with a media center, production studio, and an impressive three-story academic wing. Great Neck students excel on Virginia State Standards of Learning (SOLs) earning the number two rank in SOL achievement among the divisions 13 middle schools.
Independence Middle School

Independence Middle School

Independence Middle School is located off Independence Blvd near the Pembroke area of Virginia Beach. The school serves approximately 1279 students with a staff of 92 teachers. Currently Mr. Carey Manugo servers as principal with three assistant principals Mr. John Irby, Mr. Bruce Rector, and Mrs. Meghan Timlin. Independence Middle School offers students many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. Their mission "is to ensure that each student reaches his or her greatest potential."
Kempsville Middle School

Kempsville Middle School

Kempsville Middle School is made up of a diverse student background with a mixture of race, age, and economic backgrounds. The school receives rising sixth-grade students from Woodstock, Providence, Fairfield, and Kempsville Elementary schools. Kempsville Middle School has many school activities for students such as the Student Ambassador Program, the SCA, Drama, and many others. Kempsville philosophe is to "educate pre-adolescents and early adolescents who are experiencing physical and psychological changes. To achieve this goal, the school encourages each student to achieve his/her potential, develop a positive self-image, learn to function responsibly in a democratic society, and prepare to live in a rapidly changing world."

Kemps Landing Magnet Middle School

Kemps Landing Magnet School opened in 1995 for academically gifted students in Virginia Beach. They current have approximately 577 students and a staff of 43 teachers. Kemps Landing Magnet offers a challenging academic program where students can pursue topics at an accelerated pace as well as explore course topics in great depth. Kemps Landing Magnet school makes it their mission to "provide a challenging and rigorous program, based upon the unique needs of identified academically gifted learners, which allows these students to be risk-takers as they develop their potential through the purist of original and innovative curricula."

Home of the Lancers! Landstown Middle School is located off Princess Anne Rd in Virginia Beach and is located adjacent to Landstown High School. The school has approximately 1477 students and a staff of 101 teachers. Landstown Middle School prides itself on its athletic and extra curricular programs. "Landstown middle is committed to leading and motivating students through a success-oriented program. Lifelong learning is encouraged by meeting the academic needs and nurturing the personal development of early adolescents."
Larkspur Middle School

Larkspur Middle School

Home of the lions! Larksburg opened in November 1994 and now serves over 1500 students making it the largest middle schools in Virginia Beach. The school is located in the heart of Kempsville in Virginia Beach. What makes this school unique is that each grade level is self-contained, with hallways designated for each grade with its own guidance counselors and assistant principal. "The mission of Larkspur Middle School is to provide all students with a foundation for lifelong learning by creating a safe and supportive environment, where they are prepared to meet the challenged of tomorrow."
Lynnhaven Middle School

Lynnhaven Middle School

Lynnhaven Middle School servers approximately 1,200 students in grades six through eight. The school sits on a twenty-five acre site in close proximity to Virginia Beach General Hospital. Students come from several elementary schools including Alanton, Birdneck, King's Grant, Kingston, Linkhorn Park, Seatack, and, Trantwood. Upon completion of their studies, most students attend First Colonial and Cox High Schools. In April 2003 Lynnhaven Middle was certified by the National PTA as a Parent Involvement School of Excellence. The certification is a symbol of paretns, staff, and community members working together for the common goral of helping children succeed.

Home of the Trojans! Located in the Lynnhaven area of Virginia Beach, Plaza Middle is close to the Virginia Beach Expressway and the Lynnhaven mall. The school serves approximately 1080 students with an average class size of 25. The majority of Plaza Middle School students will attend Green Run High School. The school has seven portable classrooms, a wide variety of sports program, and three full time counselors to assist students with academic and personal concerns. They have also been voted the cleanest school in Virginia Beach! Plaza Middle School "is committed to developing its students into independent thinkers, lifelong learners, team players and responsible citizens in a safe, non-threating, stimulating and creative environment."

Located off Princess Anne Road, Princess Anne Middle School serves approximately 1382 students with a staff of 91 teachers. The school's student population represents the varied interest of Virginia Beach. They serve the farming communities, military dependents, and Sandbridge residents. Princess Anne Middle School has a variety of extracurricular activities including interscholastic competitions. They have also received several honors with music department and drama team. "The mission of Princess Anne Middle School is to develop students who are curious, creative, and critical thinkers, leaders who are empathetic, collaborative and effective communicators, and citizens who are civic minded, socially responsible, and ethical contributors to a global society."

Salem Middle School is located off Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach. Salem is fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the 5th year in a row. The school opened in September 1988 on a 34 acre site. Now the school serves approximately 1056 students. The schools motto is "Shaping Tomorrows Future." While there mission is to "educate and provide each student with the opportunity to realize his/her potential and develop into an ethical, contributing member of a changing society."

Virginia Beach Middle School is located in the heart of the Virginia Beach oceanfront on 25th street approximately six blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. This same site has been home to three schools from 1951 to the Present. This includes Virginia Beach High School, Virginia Beach Junior High school, and now built in 1992 Virginia Beach Middle school. Since 1992 the school has had several additions and renovations including an entire new wing, gym, and two new wrestling rooms. The schools philosophy is to provide a safe and effective school with a well-disciplined environment.
